Our Line Up for the New Year!
February 6, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 2015
Directed by Peter Caracappa
This February, Schenectady Light Opera revives this beautiful, classic tale with a message still relevant today – that hate and fear and ignorance are learned.
Well known for its extraordinary score -- Some Enchanted Evening, Younger Than Springtime, Bali Ha'i, There Is Nothin' Like A Dame, and A Wonderful Guy – South Pacific is also a deeply felt drama of Americans stationed in an alien culture in wartime.
The show's message is wrapped in two beautiful love stories and told through some of Rodgers and Hammerstein's best known songs.
The talented cast includes Steven Leifer as French planter Emile de Becque, Heather-Liz Copps as Ensign Nellie Forbush, Elizabeth Sherwood-Mack as Bloody Mary and Tyler Thomas as Lieutenant Joseph Cable.
We will turn SLOC into an elegant night club for our production of Smokey Joe's Cafe. Smokey Joe's Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards, including rock and roll and rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. In revue format, the 39 songs are presented by various members of the cast in various combinations, with no dialogue. There are novelty songs ("Charlie Brown"), romantic ballads ("Spanish Harlem"), and infectious melodies ("There Goes My Baby").
MAY 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17, 2015
